The lecture series "Recalibrating Culture – Reenvisioning the (Trans-)Cultural – C’est quoi la (trans-)culture?" introduces key players from various disciplines and fields that are engaged in re-envisioning a new phenomenology of (trans-)culture from different angles. Its goal is to reconsider the (trans-)cultural in response to and differential diagnosis of new post-culturalisms, neo-naturalisms or neo-materialisms, post-humanisms, and techno-sciences all of which argue against an anthropocentric approach to both culture and nature. It will take place in the coming months, culminating in a symposium on November 22–24, 2018.

The series' first lecture takes place on Monday, May 28, at 5 pm at the Karl Jaspers Centre in room 212. Prof. Steven Connor from the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge will speak about "Cohibitions: On Cultural Refraining."

Further guest lecturers will be, amongst others, W.J.T. Mitchell (University of Chicago, Chicago), James Katz from (Boston University College of Communication), Antoine Hennion (École MINES ParisTech, Paris), Jacques Revel (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, EHESS), Friedrich Balke (Ruhr Universität Bochum), Carol Gluck (Columbia University, New York), Gottfried Boehm (Universität Basel), and David J. Alworth (Harvard University).

Since this is an interactive series, it provides unconventional formats and requires preparation from its participants. Readings for each of the talks are available on HeiBox: https://heibox.uni-heidelberg.de/d/f247ad0054/.

In case of questions, please contact Emily Graf (emily-mae.graf@asia-europe.uni-heidelberg.de).

There will be more information about the following lectures soon.
