Julia Poerting will join AURA for 5 months from June to October 2016, to benefit from the interdisciplinary environment, discuss findings from her PhD research and deepen her understanding of the Anthropocene network.
AURA has a very transdisciplinary framework, bringing together academics from the humanities, the social sciences and the natural sciences to study the ‘co-species landscapes’ that humans and other species come to co-inhabit in the Anthropocene. The suggestion of the project is to use a descriptive and trans-disciplinary approach in order to understand the kinds of lives that are already made, as also the futures that are possible in ruined, re-wilded, and unintended landscapes of the Anthropocene. AURA closely cooperates with renowned institutions worldwide such as the “Haus der Kulturen der Welt” in Berlin, and several departments at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
Julia Poerting studied geography and political science at the University of Heidelberg and at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. Her research mainly focusses on (urban) political ecology, agro food studies, critical geography and other related topics, primarily in the region of South Asia. Her PhD project “Certifying Futures? Knowledge, Practices and Governance of Organic Agriculture in Pakistan” deals with relations between diversely involved actors that constitute organic agriculture in Pakistan. It is supervised by Dr. Daniel Münster, leader of Junior Research Group “Agrarian Alternatives”.
