Dr. Takuma Melber, lecturer and MATS programme coordinator at the HCTS, had a contribution published for the Blätter für deutsche und internationale Politik regarding the resignation of Japanese emperor of Akihito and the empowerment of the new emperor. The article "Japan: Neuer Kaiser, neue Erinnerungskultur?" focuses on a "new culture of memory in Japan", meaning the opportunity to come to terms with the past (Vergangenheitsbewältigung) with the new emperor.
