Dr. Takuma Melber, lecturer and MATS programme coordinator at the HCTS, received a grant by Heidelberg University's Field of Focus 3: Cultural Dynamics in Globalised Worlds to start a his research project Digitales Tsingtauarchiv/deutsche Soldaten in japanischer Kriegsgefangenschaft während des Ersten Weltkriegs. It aims at a systematic collection of written records and photographs of former German soldiers who were taken in Japanese captivity shortly after the outbreak of the First World War and the fall of Tsingtau. The project started in January and will end in October 2019.
