Dr. Carsten Wergin, member of the steering committee of the HCTS, gave a talk about "Australia and the World: A Transcultural Approach" at the Australian Studies Institute at the Australian National University on November 29. In his presentation, he drew on theories of transculturality in order to come to terms with the problem of preservation versus exploration on the continent. In Australia, with its unique environmental history, two of the most important global fields of contemporary transcultural expression have confronted each other for decades: heritage preservation and the resources industry.
