The universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg have established the largest centres of Japan research in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Both universities are the most important locations in Germany for research and education on Japan and maintain strong presence in Japan through their close partnerships with universities in Kyoto.
With one joint workshop carried out by researchers from both Tübingen and Heidelberg, senior professors and younger scholars aim at initiating a well-structured research dialogue in the field of Japan research in Baden-Württemberg, setting an example for future joint research projects.
The workshop took place at Karl Jaspers Centre in room 212 from 11 am to 5.30 pm. Seven speakers gave talks on topics relating to Japanese religion, history, literature, and culture. The morning session was chaired by Prof. Judit Árokay, the afternoon session by Prof. Harald Fuess. A discussion about further possibilities of cooperation between both universities in the future concluded the workshop.
Prof. Harald Fuess holds the Chair of Cultural Economic History at the Heidelberg Center for Transcultural Studies. He is also Speaker of the Graduate Programs in Transcultural Studies and Deputy Speaker of the Cluster’s Research Area A "Governance and Administration".
Prof. Judit Árokay is Professor of Japanese Studies at Heidelberg University. She was coordinator of the Cluster’s research projects B1 Satire and D9 Übersetzungen.
