The student’s conference, which is organized by the Cluster’s Student Association - the MATS Fachschaft - will take place at the Karl Jaspers Centre from 9 am to 7 pm. It aims at encouraging an international dialogue on Transcultural Studies and its methodology. Addressing Master and PhD students working in various related fields, it seeks to discuss issues like the practical view at transculturation during a time, where terms as multiculturalism have become generic terms for policy makers.
The conference, which attracted contributors from numerous renowned international universities like Cambridge, Leiden or Durham, will open with a keynote address by Prof. William Sax, Head of Department of Anthropology at the South Asia Institute of Heidelberg University. The first panel after the keynote is called “Religion and Art in Transculturation”. After a lunch break, the conference will continue with three more panels on “Mobility and Placemaking”, “Knowledge in Practice” and “Identities and Narratives”. The conference is closed off by a round-table that will give the participants space for concluding thoughts and remarks.
