The thesis was part of a project B19 “Ageing in a Transcultural Context” at the Cluster of Excellence Asia and Europe in a Global Context.
Abstract of the research: The ethnographic study pursued the qeustion how recent social and urban transformations in India have altered ways of ageing. The main focus lied on changes people experience and create. Annika Mayer looked at the dynamic interplay of larger transformations – India’s shift to a neoliberal economy, the increase of migration and urbanisation – and smaller transitions in individual life courses to come to a better understanding of how to conceptualise ageing in times of globalisation.
