The workshop "Getting in the Game: Three Free Tools that Take You From Flat Data to RDF" was conducted by Matthias Arnold together with Greg Reser (Metadata Librarian, UC San Diego) and Jeff Mixter (Software Engineer, OCLC Research). They introduced three free desktop tools (or transforms) that have been developed recently. The tools provide means to embed metadata into images and export them to CSV, transform flat CSV data into VRA Core 4 XML, and transform VRA Core 4 XML into RDF. Each tool was demonstrated, and the participants were guided through the use of the tools. A step-by-step sequence took the users from embedding metadata in images and then CSV (comma separated values) export to VRA Core 4 XML and then to RDF.  The poster with the title "Connecting to the world of Linked Open Data through the VRA Core RDF Ontology", presented by Matthias Arnold, Jeff Mixter and Trish Rose-Sandler, won the first prize in the category "Most Inspiring" at the conference. All tools introduced at the workshop and on the poster are open source software and can be accessed on the VRA Core Tools Website. Together, these tools will allow museums, libraries and archives to increase exposure of their content online, allowing people to more easily find relevant images of cultural heritage objects, sites, and subjects. The workshop was part of the 3rd ARLIS/NA + VRA Joint Conference held in Seattle, Washington (USA) from March 8-12, 2016. ARLIS/NA is the Art Libraries Society of North America, a nonprofit group promoting visual arts information. VRA is the Visual Resources Association, a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to furthering research and education in the field of image management. Matthias Arnold is responsible for the Visual Resources of the Heidelberg Research Architecture (HRA). For the development of the "VRA Core 4 XML Transform Tool", he was awarded a Project grant by the Visual Resources Association Foundation (VRAF). The HRA is the Digital Humanities unit of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context".  Read more about the Transform Tools on Yet Another DH Blog.
