The symposium explored the topic of religion in contemporary urban contexts. Doctoral students and researchers from various disciplinary backgrounds and countries presented case studies from Asia and Europe. Their presentations discussed various aspects of religion in the urban multicultural space from imaginations of the “urban” and practices of place-making to processes of mediatization and transcultural transformations and the role of religion in public spaces of pluralist, (post-)secular cities. On April 1, Anna Strhan (University of Kent) presented her keynote lecture on “Time, Transcendence, and the City: Evangelicals, hope, and the urban imagination”. The workshop was jointly organised by Dr. Katja Rakow, Esther Berg and Matthias Deininger of Junior Research Group B21 “Transcultural Dynamics of Pentecostalism” and the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Utrecht University.
