The humanities outside the academic orbit are of particular interest and will be tackled by exploring the career opportunities of young researchers and M.A. Transcultural Studies students beyond the university. The Jour Fixe will begin with a brief introduction to the theme of “transculturality” by Cluster members Profs. William Sax and Diamantis Panagiotopoulos, who will also chair the event. This introduction will lead over to three short presentations from graduates of the Cluster “Asia and Europe” who are now working in a field of “transculturality” outside the university.
The subsequent roundtable discussion does not only include the chairs and graduates, but also three outside experts. Karin Heyl is Head of the Department of Culture, Sport and Society at BASF, Michael Mwa Allimadi is Chairman of the Foreigners' and Migration Council of the City of Heidelberg and Dr. Victor Taratukhin is Chair for Information Systems and Information Management at the University of Münster. The round table discussion will be open to the public.
Prof. Diamantis Panagiotopoulos is Director of the Institute of Classical Archaeology at Heidelberg University and Speaker of Research Area A “Governance and Administration”.
Prof. William Sax is Professor and Head of Department of Anthropology at the South Asia Institute at Heidelberg University and Speaker of Research Area C "Health and Environment".
Tugce Zipperer graduated from the Cluster in late 2015 and works for the Institut für transkulturelle Lösungen in Karlsruhe. Sima Gatea graduated in 2015 and is co-founder of Singa Deutschland in Berlin. Hanna Jenne graduated in 2014 and now works for the International Organization for Migration in Nürnberg.
The Jour Fixe is a regular event of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" held two times during each semester. It is organised by the four research areas of the Cluster and their speakers Prof. Diamantis Panagiotopoulos (Area A), Prof. Christiane Brosius (Area B), Prof. William Sax (Area C), and Prof. Monica Juneja (Area D).
